Hi both,
Friends thought we were mad spending Christmas on a boat, they were wrong. We had a great time, not trying to “get” anywhere, so short days and rain were no problem with the wonderfully warm interior. When the sun was out and the Cheshire countryside spread around us, I can’t think where I would rather have been. Goldberry is a fine boat, very comfortable and well thought out. We’re back in France now, here’s a link to Suzanne’s language blog about our trip. https://frenchathome.monsite-orange.fr/page-616fb6df5cb1f.html
Thanks again and à bientôtPeter and Suzanne
Hi Lindsay and Chas.,
We enjoyed our time so much. I think I’d like to do a month. We wanted to get to Llangollen and it was a bit of a race to get there and back on time. We found some very interesting places that we visited and shopped. The weather was great except for our last day so it was a good way to end. You were both so accommodating and helpful we’d definitely book with you again. We were there on June 17th – 24th or something close to that.

Hi Chas, Lindsay and Chris,
Just wanted to thank you guys for the warmest welcome, the best introduction into narrow boating and the loveliest boat with everything on board we could, or indeed did need. We had a great week travelling from Beeston to Llangollen pausing overnight at Wrenbury and Ellesmere and on the return leg stopping at Whixall and Baddily. long days boating through the Welsh and English countryside was lovely as were cosy nights on the boat having dinner in front of the coal fire. All of this made for the most enjoyable week and the two of us and Ruby the bulldog had a fab week. Thanks guys , we will return.Paul and David.

We had a wonderful week on the Roherin! Very practical boat, especialy with the cruiser stern, ideal with a dog on board!
The boat was easy to handle, interior ,bathroom, galley, seating, sleeping…… just perfect.
The only thing we regret is that we couldn’t make it to Llangollin; our own fault: too many stops on that beautiful canal and to many walks with Monty (the dog)
Maybe the next time.
Best wishes,
Luc and Lea
Just a short note to thank you for posting our house keys back to us after we managed to leave them on Elbereth last Friday. They were waiting for us on our doormat when we got home from the second part of our holiday in north Wales.
We had a lovely week on the boat, and got all the way up to Trevor on the Llangollen before we had to turn back. It was our first time on a canal boat and the hour and a half that Chris spent with us talking us through the boat and showing us how to turn and go through the locks was invaluable. We certainly felt a little bit smug and superior when we came across hirers from other companies who didn’t seem to have a clue about how to do any of it!
As above, we all really enjoyed the week and have said that it is definitely something that we will do again, and we will certainly look to book with you again when we do.
Thanks once again for all your help,
Andy, Emma, George and William Haynes
Hello, Chas, Chris and Lindsey,
We just wanted to thank you all for making possible a fabulous week on the lovely ‘Roheryn’. The boat is very well equipped, with lots of well thought out storage, and steers nicely (depending on who’s doing the steering, of course!)
We were very glad to have the wood-burning stove and found plenty of wood along the canal banks to keep us toasty warm for a week. The weather was blessedly dry and sunny most of the time and we have some fabulous memories – many of them captured photographically. I’m attaching a few in the hope that they may be interested to anyone thinking of hiring from you. We’ve travelled this canal before, several times, and would certainly do it again.
Many thanks for a lovely canal experience on a charming and well-designed narrowboat.
Regards
Anne, Ian and Nick
We thoroughly enjoyed the week, even managing to avoid most of the wet weather until Saturday, so we didn’t do too bad! We would like to thank you all for your friendly help and advice, and after a near disaster right at the start, we managed to cope pretty well. The boat was just right for two people; clean, tidy and well equipped, and easy to manoeuvre once we got the hang of it. It was a first time for me, but not for Vivienne as she and her late husband owned a boat for about 12 years up to the late nineties and travelled extensively on the canal network , including the Shroppie. Thanks again and we hope you have a good season. Regards, Brian and Vivienne
Thank you for another lovely week. I’m not sure what you could improve in terms of the boat, it is perfect for us. What sets Chas Hardern apart from every other boat hire company we have used is the fantastic service and wonderful good humour of the people. Thank you again all and especially Chas.
Mr and Mrs Thomas on Thorin.
Mrs Yardley on Thorin 11/8/14 Lovely well equipped boat. Ideal for 2 people. Plus a few ‘extra essentials’ put on the boat for you. My online shopping I had delivered was also put away. Thoroughly enjoyed and relaxing . Now back to the real world. Thank you.
Hi. I’m longing back. I have to write you a bit to thank you all for a super holiday experience incl. all from shopping help to taxi service and Chris´jokings.

Dear Lindsay & Chas,
I thought I’d write to say thank you because we really enjoyed our holiday aboard Snowmane last week. The boat was clean and comfortable, and has a good layout. Chris gave us a thorough instruction on how to steer the barge and operate the first lock, which was really useful for us rusty boaters. I had anticipated that I’d enjoy the week, but I completely under-estimated by how much. The pace is so relaxing, the scenery is stunning and yet its varied and active, with locks, bridges, tunnels and aqueducts. We met lots of friendly people along the way and found some nice pubs and cafes. I’d recommend it highly.
Thanks again, Graeme Roberts
Good Morning Just want to say ‘thank you’ again for a very enjoyable time on ‘Thorin’ last week. Your courteous service, the comfort of the boat, Chris’s tuition etc etc are all greatly appreciated. We look forward to returning for perhaps a longer holiday.
Kind Regards & Best wishes to you all. Jean & David
Hi Lindsay,
Just to thank you all for another spectacular break on Yavanna. A really thorough instruction handover, a boat that never missed a beat and the sumptuous Shropshire Union canal in perfect weather. Why do people bother to go abroad ? . We can’t wait to try one of your new narrowboats, We first went on the canals with Chas Hardern in 2001 and have been hiring with them every year since then. We have also hired second holidays from other boatyards. Chas, Lindsay and Chris’s attention to safety and training has not yet been beaten and the variety and tidiness of their fleet is wonderful. As for the routes one can take from Beeston we haven’t yet done the same trip twice – and are still planning more routes to take for future trips.

Chas, Lyndsey, Chris and team, Just a few lines to thank you for a fabulous holiday aboard Strider in early August. It was obvious that a huge amount of work had been put in by all to have the boat finished in time for our holiday. Chas, your craftsmanship is excellent and our sincere thanks go to you for all of the midnight oil burnt. Lindsey, for the professional way in which the booking was handled and im sure that there was much input from you also to ensuring the completion of Strider on time. Chris, what a man, so helpful with a fabulous sense of humour, it was a pleasure to meet you. Should we be looking to hire another boat in the future we shall come to you first of all. Thank You to all once again, and the best of luck for the future.
Best Wishes Phil & Jan Langford and Friends.
Hasta la vista! Thank You.
I didn’t want to ring and disturb your Sunday, however, I just want to let you know again, how much we enjoyed our holiday on Strider. It was such a wonderful boat – very luxurious and we appreciated all the attention to detail you took in planning the boat’s design. The general layout, comfortable lounge, immaculate bathrooms and well equipped kitchen were perfect. We couldn’t have hoped for any more. I would also like to thank you for your personal approach. I liked the extra touches from leaving books and dvds to the comical mugs! I am sorry I didn’t realise that we packed a Canal Boat Mag by mistake and also found a knife in the dogs basket that must have fallen from the table. Let me know if you need them back!

What a beautiful boat! We were really excited to be the first on the new narrowboat and it lived up to all expectations. Really well fitted and laid out with a lot of though. We liked the large kitchen being near the steerer and the saloon area had ample space for our family of 5 (plus dog) to sit and eat together comfortably with room for more! The bathroom and shower excellent and having two toilets was a bonus. The sleeping areas were also really comfortable with reading lights for all and nice thick mattresses. Over all a really excellent boat.

My husband and I have been on Chas &Lindsay’s hire boats for the last 5 years. We used to go to the Canaries 3 times a year but now we go on the boats instead. We love it, Chas’s boats are clean & homely. The instructions are very good and you are made to feel at ease. The staff are helpful and nothing is a problem for them. I would recommend Chas Harderns to anyone.
Jean & Dave Murphy
We have had a fantastic holiday and it won’t be our last. As first time boaters and travelling from abroad we have needed to contact the boat yard with a number of questions.
You have always been helpful, friendly and professional. The boat has been perfect, well maintained and with everything we could need and more.
Chas Hardern has provided fantastic value for money and we would not hesitate to recommend the company to anyone. It is obvious that Chas Hardern Boats is not just in the business to make money but to give their clients an opportunity to share their enthusiasm and love of boating.
Many many thanks. We are so sorry to be leaving ‘Strider’ tomorrow.
